Degrees of Protection - First Digit
The degree that a person is protected against moving parts is indicated by the first digit of the IP code – so, “2” in the case of an IP20 connector.
This digit also refers to the degree to which equipment is safeguarded against the intrusion of foreign bodies into an enclosure.
An IP20 connector is protected against solid objects up to 12mm in size, which is approximately the size of a person’s fingers.
Degrees of Protection - Second Digit
The degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against the harmful entry of different forms of moisture is indicated by the second digit.
The “0” in IP20 connectors indicates that there is no protection against liquids and they will be susceptible to damage if they come into contact with water or moisture.

FAQs:
What is an IP20 connector suitable for?
IP20 connectors are often used indoors for lighting in living rooms, dining rooms, or kitchens where there is little risk of ingress.
These products do not offer protection against water and splashes, so they are not suitable for outdoor use and may not be the best option for bathrooms where moisture levels are high.
To find out more about our range of IP20 connectors and for help choosing the most suitable connectors for your application, please get in touch with our team.
How does an IP20 connector compare with other IP connectors?
An IP20 connector is protected from touch by fingers and objects greater than 12mm in size.
Unlike an IP44 that offers a higher level of protection for smaller objects and resists splashes from every direction, IP20 connectors do not offer protection against liquids and moisture. Instead, they are intended for dry rooms only.
IP65 connectors are completely dustproof and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction. This means they are more effective for outdoor use than IP20 connectors, as they are less susceptible to damage in adverse weather conditions.
