Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PMAFIX and PMAFIX Pro?

The original PMAFIX series already sets a high bar, using a patented safety clip system for fast push-in installation and promising durability with a range of thread types and ingress protection ratings. Here’s how PMAFIX Pro improves on it.

Ingress Protection

The newer PMAFIX Pro series boosts everything that was already excellent about its predecessor, providing the highest water ingress protection ratings with an improved inner sealing element.

PMAFIX Pro systems are also highly resistant to UV rays and weathering – along with IP68 to IP69K ingress protection ratings, this makes them ideal for heavy-duty set-ups.

Quality materials

When it comes to materials, both have fittings made from modified polyamide 6 and threads also made from polyamide 6 or nickel-plated brass, and both are halogen-free and self-extinguishing.

Highly flexible temperature range

While the Pro version aligns with the standard PMAFIX temperature range – which is from -40°C to +105°C and +160°C short-term – PMAFIX Pro can operate in temperatures as low as -50°C.

Impact resistance

When it comes to characteristics, PMAFIX products are highly impact resistant and vibration-proof, with great conduit pull-out strength and compatibility with fine (T) and coarse (G) conduit profiles.

Secure connection fittings

The PMAFIX Pro increases these qualities even further, including the security afforded by screwdriver-only disassembly, as their fittings only lock when sealing elements are completely inserted to ensure reliable assembly and operational safety.

What kinds of PMA conduits are available?

We offer a selection of single and multilayer PMA conduit types at Northern Connectors, capable of fulfilling a range of high technical requirements. PMA conduits are available in a range of weight classes, from very light to heavy, and in diameters ranging from 6mm to 125mm.

Variety of designs

Available as divisible or split conduits by request, with standard colours being black or grey with options for green or blue interiors, the wide assortment makes PMA conduits extremely versatile. Many applications can benefit from products in the PMAFLEX, PMAFLEX Pro, PMA Smart Line, PMA Divisible, or PMAFLEX Multilayer conduits series.

PMA accessories

There are also many PMA conduit accessories to choose from, which include flat thread gaskets, universal safety clips, water impact protection fittings, reinforced sealing caps, reducers and enlargers, plug screws, hexagonal lock nuts, half shells, tube clamps, terminal sleeves, abrasion protection sleeves, and a variety of stackable system supports – plus draw-in tools and cutting tools.

As a PMA distributor, our team is made up of connector experts. So. if you’re unsure which PMA conduits are best suited to your requirements, get in touch!

Can PMA systems be used for retrofits?

Whether you are planning and designing a completely new system for an upcoming installation or working on repairs for an existing system, PMA is sure to have a suitable solution for your needs, from new PMAFLEX Multilayer conduits to PMA Smart Line conduits and more.

PMA Divisible for retrofits

The ideal series for repairing and/or retrofitting, especially if you are looking for pre-loomed cabling for speedy assembly, is the PMA Divisible system. Its divisible one-piece design promises modern functionality and great value for its performance level – its IP40 sealing can be increased to IP54 for closed conduits with certain fittings.

Selection of connection fittings

This PMA series includes divisible connectors, divisible conduits, divisible junction pieces, and divisible lock nuts, with black as the standard colour. Conduits are made from polyamide 6 and polypropylene, with a temperature range of -40°C to +160°C, while polyamide connectors have a temperature range of -40°C to +100°C minimum.

Backward compatibility

As the PMA Divisible system is based on PMA standard widths, it is easy to combine these products with existing PMA product installations without taking them apart completely – including PMAFIX, PMAFIX Pro, and PMA Smart Line. All PMA conduits, even split versions, are also compatible with PMA Divisible fittings.
