Who Needs Industrial Water Connectors?
In recent years, a rising population and high agricultural usage have led to water becoming an increasingly precious commodity, which in turn has led to a shift to innovative technology to increase efficiency and reduce wastage. Such industries and businesses include:
- Authorities concerned with intelligent monitoring, such as those concerned with flooding and coastal erosion
Water companies - Local, regional, and UK-wide government and regulatory bodies
- Underwater and pipeline exploration
- Water treatment and monitoring system manufacturers, including desalination and hydropower stations
Using specialist underwater electrical connectors and coordinating accessories, businesses and authorities can better highlight where improvements can be made, minimising losses, and regulating usage in particular areas.
However, to be effective, these systems need to be robustly waterproofed and secured against even the harshest environmental conditions – and this is where Northern Connectors steps in. Choose high-quality connectors and wiring systems from our various manufacturing partners, which include CONEC, HARTING, binder, PMA, and Souriau.
Why Choose Northern Connectors?
As an ISO 9001-certified business with over 40 years’ experience, Northern Connectors gives you access to a comprehensive range of connectors that will perform reliably, no matter the operating conditions. From possible water ingress to extreme temperatures, our connectors will keep your systems running without interruption.

Types of Water Technology Connectors
Water technology and industries call for a wide array of industrial water connector types, each suited to different parts of a system. When selecting, you need to consider the level of ingress protection required, the type of signal or power being transmitted, and the physical environment.
- Circular connectors
A common choice, these connectors offer a robust, secure connection that performs well in exposed or outdoor situations. The sealed design makes them ideal for applications where reliability can’t be compromised, like monitoring or pumping stations. Choose miniature circular connectors if a smaller footprint is needed.
- Waterproof Ethernet and data connectors
Supporting networked, intelligent monitoring systems, giving industries and authorities real-time data to track usage and identify losses. These need to perform in damp conditions or when submerged without issue or delay.
- Waterproof D-Sub connectors
Available in standard or high-density formats, where multiple signal or control lines run through a single sealed connection. This keeps installations compact without compromising protection.
- Rectangular or heavy-duty connectors
Designed for higher power transmission or a larger number of contacts, these connectors can often be found in pumping stations, treatment plants, and large-scale infrastructure.
Underwater electrical connectors rely on a high enough ingress protection. Choose connectors, glands, and conduits rated IP67, IP68, OR IP69K, mated and unmated, for protection against submersion, pressure, and prolonged moisture exposure.
Connector Benefits
True waterproofing
Connectors that are suitable for water technology usage need to be rugged and waterproof, offering IP67, IP68, and IP69K ingress protection in their mated state. Only by doing so can they offer the level of performance that the industry requires. The Souriau UTS, UTSX, UTGX, and UTOX series, and the binder 770 series offer waterproof sealing in unmated conditions.
Pressure protection
IP69K-rated connectors offer protection against high pressures as well as water ingress. This is relevant in high-pressure and high-temperature environments.
Vibration and shock resistance
Secure locking mechanisms, like bayonet or screw couplings, prevent connections from working loose over time in settings like pumping stations.
