M9 connectors are similar in dimension to the slightly smaller M8 threaded variants which are more established in the industry.

This slight size increase over M8 however offers more shielding and boardmounting possibilities.

The M9 IP67 system also offers more variety over the IP40 equivalent (711 series) with the introduction of right angled field attachable cable connectors, overmoulded cordsets and shielded versions.
